Amazon.com Review
An Amazon Best Book of May 2017: Some of the best books, in my opinion, don't really end when you turn the final page. Instead, something about them sticks with you, causes you to look back, challenges you, or maybe just revisits you from time to time. One Day We'll All Be Dead and None of This Will Matter qualifies. In this case, not only do many of Scaachi Koul's laugh-out-loud accounts of her experiences in her everyday life bring smiles time and time again, they also strike with a surprising poignancy that both speaks to your core and challenges you moving forward. It's great for bite-sized reads in its structure, but good luck not devouring it in one sitting. Either way, the end seems to come much too soon. I’m expecting more great things from this author! --Penny Mann, The Amazon Book Review

From School Library Journal
This debut collection of essays from BuzzFeed writer Koul is at once insanely funny and vulnerable. Koul discusses her Indian family and her break from their social norms (as when she introduced her parents to her boyfriend, who was white) and prejudice encountered both in her Indian culture and her life in Toronto, among many other anecdotes about womanhood, fears, gender roles, and positive body image. In one memorable entry, the author talks about how lighter skin is prized in India. Koul, who is fair-skinned, is revered for her beauty in India, but she discusses how in Canada the color of her skin matters in a different way. She says, "I'm not white…but I'm just close enough that I could be, and just far enough that you know I'm not. I can check off a diversity box for you, but I don't make you nervous." She injects her blunt outlooks on life with hilarity. Koul's work for BuzzFeed give this volume added YA appeal. VERDICT An extremely teen-friendly series of writings on important subjects.—Tyler Hixson, Brooklyn Public Library

I came into this book expecting a few laughs but not much substance. It ended up leaving me with things learned and a new perspective on things I thought I knew already. The laughs were more chuckles than actual laughs, but I'll forgive it because Koul is rather charming in her writing. It's billed as humor (or at least that it was presented to me as), but it's more of a collection of essays on being a woman with a very defined cultural background. She writes about her family, about being Indian but born and raised in Canada, about being a girl and all that entails in today's world, and she does it all with charming ease that tackles even the toughest topics with élan.
I wanted to love this book, but ended up being disappointed. Scaachi’s first hand account of her experiences are relateable and thought provoking. She tackles casual racism, overt racism, cultural differences, immigrant life, body issues, and relationships. I found the humor and snide jokes to be jarring. She tackles complex issues and shares experiences that would resonate easily with many audiences but they are certainly hidden within a lot of jargony biting sarcasm. I normally loves essays and biographies in that style but this felt forced and disingenuous. I would love to see how her writing changes and grows in the future!
First hand experience and account of prejudice and racism, ignorance played out, on and offline. Honest portrayal of growing up, hangups, culture clashes and the volatility of friendship.
3.5 -I won this book in a goodreads giveaway. This book covers serious issues that women face everyday but does it in a humorous way. This book is about, life, culture, dating, family, loss, rape, and yet manages to make you laugh at how ridiculous it all really is.
The book was not what I expected and wish I had not wasted my money on it. There are better books that cover cultural considerations than this none.
Funny and touching. I would like to meet Scaachi's father.
It was entertaining enough for a lazy day with nothing else to do. But it didn't capture my attention the way I expected.
Very, very funny! Well-written, very vivid stories and people. Her Dad is a gem!
