Purchased this for my daughter. She's been very frustrated in her attempts to get in a P.A. School. She's had two interviews, but was wait-listed by one school and got a rejection letter from the other. She's applied to over a dozen schools. (Head's up students. P.A. schools go "strictly" by GPA, no matter what they say. And it isn't required to be a biology or science major as you might think, ie., Mass Communications or Psychology is fine and they are much easier majors to maintain a higher GPA. Sorry to vent). Anyway, she said this book has been extremely helpful in preparing for her next interview and would highly recommend it.
A fast read that provided valuable tips and feedback in such a succinct and straightforward manner. I was able to read through the book a week before my PA interview and felt that it helped immensely! However, if I had known about this book earlier, I would have definitely gotten it in advanced, as I could have practiced the material suggested in the book more. Nonetheless, the book still managed to help me prepare with what little time I had before the interview. This book seems to cover all potential topics that may be brought up during an interview. It has tons of sample interview questions and gives "best, mediocre, and weak" sample answers. The author even goes further to explain why certain answers are better than others. I learned so much more about how to phrase my own interview responses. If you are the type of person who learns best by example then this is the book for you!About the first 25 pages of the book gives you insight about how a PA interview is typically structured and what the the schools are looking for. The rest of the book is full of example interview questions with sample answers, so you can learn what a well structured answer looks like. The last 50 pages are full of resources on PA programs and associations within the nation as well as how you can contact them. Personally I thought that this was unnecessary since any of this can be found through a simple internet search. Also, I'm not quite sure how these contacts help with interviewing at all... However, some people might like having everything organized in one place as they are working on their applications.Overall, I would highly recommend this book. I had two interviews prior to getting the book and felt that I was always caught off guard somehow. After reading this book, I felt more prepared and really did "ACE" the last interview!
Although most of my PA school interviews actually did not use many of the questions in this book, I felt significantly more prepared on interview day having gone through this book. In fact, I would actually recommend that pre-PA students buy this before even filling out their CASPA application and writing their personal statement. It has a lot of good info that I could've used while writing. Using this book, I got interviews to 5/7 schools I applied to and was accepted to all but one (I was waitlisted). Going through this book forced me to think about how I would word certain questions and formulate a whole set of responses to keep in my back pocket in case the wording of their questions changed. This increased my confidence exponentially, and I am not sure I would've done so well at my interviews without it. Thanks!
Absolutely love this book. It helped me be prepared for my interviews. I highly recommend this for anyone trying to get into PA school. I get really bad anxiety with getting asked questions in the moment of an interview. This book really broke down who I was as an applicant in the beginning, then informed me of what schools will be looking for, and then at the end gives a bunch of interview questions with examples of what weak/strong answers are. I’m happy to say I’ve been accepted into a PA program after two interviews!!
This book was very helpful for helping me get into PA school. It is the most in-depth book regarding PA school interviews to date and can help anyone feel more prepared on interview day. However, do keep in mind that schools are aware this book exists and will likely realize if your answers to common interview questions are copied from the book. Use the example answers as a guide to help you find more clear and honest answers about yourself. I would also recommend you not to just read the book, but have someone ask you all the common questions randomly first, then evaluate how you did, read the example answers and then practice again.
I bought this book over the summer to prepare myself for interviews. As a first time applicant I wasn't sure what to expect so I reviewed this book before each interview (2) and I ended up getting accepted into both programs! This book helped me to think in such a way to answer questions honestly and concisely. I would def recommend this book to anyone applying to PA school! Good luck all.
Read through the book and was dissatisfied. Really all of its contents are mostly common sense ideas and I would say it is more effective to just research online the specific school that you are interviewing at and general questions. I had interviewed at three different schools and all three asked the most common/general questions that you would expect therefore having a great delivery I thought was the most important aspect.
Great for newbies. I disagreed with a lot of the answers in the book. Better to simply look up questions on the internet. Best advice was simply to write down specific stories from your health care experience and read them over the week or so before the interview. I found when asked questions during the interview, I was bad at making things up on the spot or I couldn't remember the good stories I had until after I was more relaxed.
